„We Continue the Change“ /WCC/ expressed their expectations that the European political family „Renew Europe“ will vote for the expulsion of the “Movement for Rights and Freedoms” /MRF/. The decision is expected on 14 January.
According to WCC, this step is a result of the actions of Delyan Peevski, who is subject to sanctions under the U.S. Magnitsky Act and the British RICO Act. In a statement issued yesterday, WCC expressed satisfaction with the recommendation from the presidency of „Renew Europe“ to terminate MRF’s membership.
The national conference of MRF yesterday unanimously elected Delyan Peevski as Chairman of the party. Out of 544 delegates, all voted in favour. Peevski outlined his priorities as leader, pointing to the need to create jobs and to bring Bulgarian citizens back home from abroad.
At the conference, a new constitution was adopted, which abolished the position of „honorary chairman“ and established a new youth organization. Additionally, a new Central Council and Central Operations Bureau were elected.
Dzhevdet Chakarov from Burgas, together with supporters of current Honorary Chairman Ahmed Dogan, announced that they would appeal the legitimacy of the conference and the new changes in the statute. According to them, the removal of the „honorary chairman“ erases the timeless values and strategic goals of the party.
