„GERB, MRF and „Vazrazhdane“ condemn the country to huge uncertainty.“
This is what „We Continue the Change“ said after their declaration was rejected in the plenary hall. They demanded that the National Assembly ask the caretaker cabinet to submit a new budget for 2023. Party’s Co-chairman and Former finance minister Assen Vassilev said on the sidelines of Parliament that if there is no new financial framework, there will be a serious risk for the incomes of people and businesses.
„There is a huge uncertainty about us being able to adopt the euro from January 1, 2024, because without a clear budget and a committed budget deficit, there is no way to fulfill the criteria that have been set and it is not possible to set policies in an environment of inflation to support the poorest part of the population,„, Vassilev stressed.
The MPs rejected the declaration submitted by „We Continue the Change“, with 127 MPs voting against and 1 abstaining. The proposal of „We Continue the Change“ was supported only by „Democratic Bulgaria“ /DB/ and BSP, but the three formations gathered 86 votes in favour. GERB Chairwoman Desislava Atanasova called the declaration „legal nothing“.
BSP leader Korneliya Ninova spoke of „political suicide“ of parliamentarism because of the position of „Bulgarian Rise“ and „Vazrazhdane“ that a new budget should be made not by an official but by a regular government. She said:
„What I’m warning about happened. President Radev set a trap, you jumped into it with both feet and it clicked, because day by day and drop by drop in Bulgarian society, the good president, the bad parties and the absolutely incompetent Parliament are superimposed. The caretaker cabinett ook over the state. Don’t you feel, don’t you have an intuition of what is happening in the country? Creeping, one-man power.”
During the debate, which lasted more than four and a half hours, MPs went beyond the financial parameters.
