The United States remains engaged in the partnership process for Bulgaria to join the Visa Waiver Programme. This became clear during the meeting of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev with the Assistant Secretary for International Affairs of the US Department of Homeland Security Adam Hunter. In the course of the talks, the progress Bulgaria has made on the issue, especially in recent weeks, was highlighted.
“The rules are there to be respected. There are objective criteria that we are striving for and we will make every effort to meet”, Prime Minister Glavchev said during the meeting.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry is conducting a special information campaign because of the still high number of refusals. Prime Minister Glavchev also set up a working group to speed up activities on the visa issue.
In the course of the meeting, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev also focused on the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the US, as well as on the priorities in the work of the caretaker cabinet. Glavchev pointed to the respect of the Constitution and the laws, as well as the fight against corruption as clear red lines that the government follows steadfastly. The prime minister also noted the elections held on 27 October, which the international observers from PACE found to be professionally organised.
