Valuable months were missed during the summer, in which a process for reorganization of the hospitals could be started, commented Yanaki Stoilov in the studio of „Panorama“. According to him, at the beginning of the crisis, the opposition agreed with some of the government’s measures, but now things are getting out of hand.
„My position on the pandemic has always been serious. Some of the government’s measures to control the medical aspects can be shared. They even seemed excessive, because a few dozen people were subject to stricter restrictions than at present. My explanation of the crisis is different from that of the government and it is not that complicated. The first important fact is that the prime minister is a supporter of emergency action. He wants to govern in a way that, if he does something today, sees its result tomorrow, or travels around the country to say that he distributes to one or another group, satisfying their interests.“
„The second reason is due to the great pressure that the government is under, the prime minister has been hiding for months, giving some statements from different places, but he is not ruling from the place where this is being done. There were some delayed videos. This weakness of the government, that it cannot rely on approval for its actions, makes it compliant, to follow the momentum of the crisis, and not to manage it. Even if he wants to, the government can’t run at the moment.“
Stoilov also shared what are the alternative proposals of the Socialists in connection with the 2021 Budget. According to him, the social costs in it are increased and the opposition is aware of that. That is why it does not just criticize the expenditures set by the management, but offers alternative approaches, Stoilov added. He gave an example with child allowances and the proposal of the socialists to reduce the monthly tax base to BGN 500 for each parent raising a child. According to him, this means that thousands of families will have more disposable income. He also repeated the thesis of the left for the introduction of income taxation, as well as that it is necessary to recalculate all pensions, not supplements of BGN 50 each. After listing the alternatives, Stoilov pointed out that the effect of them would be a deficit of BGN 500 million lower than the one envisaged by the government.
